Burleson County CERT

Our mission is to provide emergency preparedness training and information to our community, to support First Responders, provide leadership and coordination of volunteers, and provide post-emergency assistance to victims. We promote resiliency through preparedness, response, and recovery by incorporating best practices and sharing resources to empower trained volunteers in our community.  "Doing the Greatest good for the Greatest amount of people".

Burleson County Emergency Response Team (BCCERT) is participating in the Brazos Valley Gives donation campaign again in 2026.  

Last year, BCCERT used the money raised from BVG to purchase a cardiac defibrillator, a blood pressure monitor, a pulse oximeter, medical
supplies, a Halligan tool, a cover for our trailer located at the
Caldwell fire station, a heat stroke cold water immersion bag, and
provided meals for the first responders.  We also got up to date on our maintenance expenses of our used trailer.

This year we are trying to raise money to purchase another used trailer, fully outfit that trailer as an emergency communications trailer with GMRS, HAM, and internet capabilities.  In the event of a grid failure, if requested, BCCERT could provide for the county emergency support communications for Fire, EMS, Law enforcement personnel, TDEM,  and other emergency services. We also want to begin replicating our current inventory to
stage emergency supplies or a trailer in both Somerville and Snook.  Currently we have all of our equipment in one location in Caldwell.  Lastly we need to update expiring medical supplies and BLS/CPR certifications.

In April of 2026, BCCERT was approached by Jackie Miller, the Mayors office Community Preparedness Program Manager for the city of Houston, Texas.  Houston CERT programs have provided support to the Texas MS 150 Bike Ride for more than 19 years.  CERT members provide leadership at the REST STOPS along the route of the 2 day, 150 mile bike ride.  A route change this year from Houston to College Station required the assistance of some new CERT groups to help along the route.  

"Because of the consistent training and preparedness provided through the CERT program, teams from different jurisdictions should be able to seamlessly work together during large scale events.  Changes in the route this year allowed us to connect with Burleson County to work together at the Snook Rest Stop, demonstrating the value of the CERT program across the state of Texas.  

We greatly appreciate the partnership and support provided by Burleson County CERT during the April 2026 MS 150 Bike Ride.  Their willingness to collaborate across jurisdictional boundaries demonstrates the importance of CERT programs in building strong, resilient communities.  The additional trained volunteers, experience, and resources they brought to the event enhanced our ability to support the safety and well-being of event participants while strengthening coordination between organizations.  Partnerships like this are invaluable - not only for successful large-scale events, but also for building the relationships and interoperability that are essential during future emergencies and disasters.
