Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department of Robertson County

The Mission of the Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department is to save lives and protect property. The Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department (BJVFD) is a 100% volunteer fire department and was established in 1980. The 14 member department serves an area of over 120 square miles which includes the communities of Blackjack, Bryan, Hearne, Franklin, Mumford, and Wheelock with a population around 2,000 residents. With limited funding and no paid staff, our small rural department responds to over 160 calls per year to fires, crashes, and emergencies.

Your support is vital to help us protect our community.

We especially need your support this year, on a way to a structure fire in August, one of our trucks blew a tire, rolled and caught fire. We are thankful and blessed our firefighters were able to get out with minor injuries. However, our truck and all equipment are a total loss. We are waiting to hear from insurance but even with insurance we estimate to be at least $80,000 short to replace the truck due to increased costs. Please help support us to be able to purchase a new brush truck.

Blackjack VFD is a 100% volunteer department serving over 120 square miles in rural Robertson County. across Blackjack, Bryan, Mumford, Hearne, and Franklin.

In 2026 alone, we've already answered 145 calls. Last year, we responded to 165, including 45 wildfires and dozens of serious crashes, many on our dark, unlit 15-mile stretch of Highway 6. Over 45% of our calls are crash-related, and they often involve 18-wheelers, vehicle rollovers, and lifesaving extrication and rescues.

BJVFD frequently provides mutual aid throughout the region. As demand rises and volunteers decline, we remain committed to protecting lives. Your donation helps ensure we have the tools, gear, and training to respond-day or night-when our community needs us most.
