$5,000 Goal

At Dementia Friendly Bryan - College Station, our mission is to create an inclusive and supportive environment that empowers individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, we strive to enhance awareness, understanding, and accessibility within our community, fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and dignity for all.

Dementia Friendly Bryan-College Station (DFBCS) is composed of passionate advocates, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community members who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those impacted by dementia. We envision a community where every person touched by dementia feels valued, supported, and empowered to live fully. We strive to unite compassionate individuals, organizations, and businesses to break down barriers, reduce stigma, and promote well-being. We are committed to driving meaningful progress in dementia care by listening to those impacted, advocating for their needs, and creating innovative solutions that foster inclusion. Together, we will build a brighter, dementia-friendly future for generations. Originating from the Alzheimer's Society in the UK, the Dementia Friendly movement now thrives in the U.S., with each community working to: raise awareness and inclusion; ensure access to services and resources; support and educate people with dementia and their care partners from diagnosis onward; and promote meaningful community engagement. Every person has a role in creating a place where all can live, age, and thrive-our goal is to make every resident a "Dementia Friend."

History of Dementia Friendly

  • Dementia Friendly communities began as a global movement developed by the Alzheimer's Society in the United Kingdom and now underway in the United States. Dementia Friendly America (DFA) began in September 2015 following the White House Conference on Aging and is based on Minnesota’s statewide successful initiative, ACT on Alzheimer’s.

  • On April 1, 2026, Bryan-College Station was officially recognized as a dementia friendly community. Being apart of this network provides us with national resources, collaboration opportunities and visibility as we continue to expand our dementia awareness and support within our community.

  • The goal is to make EVERY community member a "Dementia Friend".  A Dementia Friend is a community member who has participated in the one-hour Dementia Friends Information Session offered by a Dementia Friends Champion*. People with dementia need to be understood and supported in their communities.  You can help by becoming a Dementia Friend today.
The informational session provides education on:

    • The five key messages about dementia,

    • How the disease affects people,

    • What it is like to live with dementia, and

    • Ways we can make a difference in the lives of people living with the disease.
