The Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB) utilizes food, funds, and friends to bring the Brazos Valley closer to being hunger-free. Now celebrating our 40th anniversary of service, BVFB continues to grow in reach and impact. Last year, we served over 72,000 people and distributed more than 7 million pounds of food. We solve hunger today by distributing nutritious food through our 39 partner agencies that directly feed people in their communities. Where gaps exist, BVFB steps in with targeted programs: BackPacks of food for children, School Food Pantries for older students, Senior Bags for homebound seniors, Mobile Pantries for rural neighbors, Project GotEM for home delivery, and Screen & Intervene to connect patients with food resources. At the same time, BVFB works to end hunger tomorrow through education, empowerment, and prevention. We assist with safety net benefits, provide referrals for unmet needs, offer nutrition education, and operate Together We Grow, preparing individuals for employment through training and garden-based learning.
After moving to College Station from Louisiana following a divorce, Kimberly Broden found herself raising her young daughter alone, struggling with childcare costs, transportation, and accessing benefits. A neighbor told her about Together We Grow, and Kimberly eagerly joined. "This isn't just a class-it's a total lifechanging event," she shared. Through TWG, she discovered local resources, gained organizational skills, and identified career paths where she could succeed. Most importantly, the program restored her confidence and hope. "I feel more confident about my future than I have in years. This program didn't just help me survive-it helped me believe in our future again."
