The first time Anderson heard the word “dyslexia,” it wasn’t in a doctor’s office or during an evaluation. He came home from school and told me a classmate said he had a 40% chance of becoming a millionaire because he had “lexia.”
When I asked Anderson what “lexia” meant, he said, “It means I’m really, really smart, but sometimes my brain takes a little longer to sort through things when I’m learning.” I asked where he had learned that, and he told me, “Ms. Toni taught me!”
I teared up. In that little conversation, I could hear how Renner Academy is helping Anderson understand himself through his strengths.
Saying this school has changed our lives feels like an understatement. Choosing Renner Academy has been one of the best decisions we’ve made for Anderson and our family. His teachers and administrators text us to share his victories—moments that may seem small to someone else but mean the world to us. They encourage him and pray for our family. They see what he does well and use those strengths to help him grow where learning is harder.
At a conference last spring, one of Anderson’s teachers taught me something new about what helps him regulate and learn. She knew because she had paid such close attention to him.
They truly love our boy. We are deeply grateful for Renner Academy and for everyone who helps make this kind of education possible.
As the only specialized school for children with dyslexia and other learning differences in the Brazos Valley, Renner Academy takes great pride in maximizing the potential of children with dyslexia and other learning differences.
